Andy Gower - Morning Sun
Album Review

Andy Gower – Morning Sun

Brit pop never really ended for Andy Gower whose songs all sound like “the acoustic one” off albums by Oasis or Boo Radleys or Paul Weller, only not as good, like Northern Uproar. There is a laddish classiscm at work here; acoustic guitar, traditional song structures, heavy northern inflection, lyricaly managing to be dull and cryptic at the same time.

There is no denying Andy Gower has a nice voice or that he can come up with a nice tune; but who wants “nice”? Indeed this is very un-complicated music and thats the problem, the utter straight forwardness of the songs makes them predictable and ultimately forgetable. Predictabilty can be overlooked though, if you have the kind of class A melodies that chastise the listener in their sleep and prove to be deeply habit forming. These melodies are not those melodies.
