MGMT – Time To Pretend

What the hell do you mean, you’re not invincible? Your body is that of a human? Your mind that of a new age hippie? I don’t want to admit that you’ll probably die a hideous and untimely death if you act like a rock star.

Iggy’s still alive isn’t he? We needed his messed up performances to show us that performance and persona are everything to a live audience. So no no no MGMT! Do not tell me these truths about premature dying and false egos. Feed the passion of the hungry youths.

Luckily, they still do. Space Age inspired futuristic duo Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser make music that charms me like a fairytale woodland creature just waiting to help me do the chores and sing harmoniously about sweeping. This alone makes me want to build a mystic thinking den and have a tropical skittle and LSD smoothie for breakfast.

MGMT, have made one of the most irrepressibly happy songs ever. By happy, I mean we should all allow the songs full potential to blossom by putting on a space suit and breathing in the irony whilst said fairytale creatures of Disneyland play outside my spaceship on the moons Wallace and Grommet indented surface.

Buy, listen, love… you might even chose to accept their discomforting but fairly certain assumptions: “This is our decision, to live fast and die young/We’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun.”
