You don’t see too many nine-piece bands nowadays. Maybe that’s because they know they can’t compare to London newcomers The Bookhouse Boys. Soaring new single ‘Dead’ launches straight into a blisteringly atmospheric intro, the kind of music you might expect to see on the soundtrack if Quentin Tarantino was to make a western. The energy and intensity of the track are greatly captivating, so much so that you never want it to end.
It does inevitably end, but is followed by an almost equally memorable b-side in The Valley, a gothic (not to be confused with black metal or similar music) slow-burner which combines exquisite vocal melodies with subtle, haunting instruments.
If you get an chance to see The Bookhouse Boys in the next few weeks, grasp the opportunity with both hands – with music like this they won’t be unknowns for too much longer.
