Levi’s Ones To Watch – Cazals – Glasgow Barfly

The latest installment of the ‘Levis Ones To Watch’ tour saw East London group Cazals play Glasgow’s Barfly on a typically wet and windy Friday night.

Playing a mix of fast paced indie punk with poppy electro keyboards, the groups debut album ‘Life is Boring’ is due out on the 3rd of March on record label Kitsuné.

For a band that have been touted as one of the most promising of 2008, couple of minutes before they come on the bar looks extremely quiet.

The lack of any type of atmosphere appears to make lead singer Phil Rush somewhat nervous. Known for his energetic live performances, Rush looks subdued, shuffling awkwardly from side to side.

‘Time Of Our Lives’ and popular Spandau Ballet cover ‘To Cut Long Story Short’ are well received by those who turned out for the gig, and as time goes on the band ease up considerably.

The keyboards are well used throughout the set, especially with forthcoming single ‘Life Is Boring’ complimenting the bass and guitars perfectly.

Despite the few highlights, overall the set is lacklustre, although this could be chalked down to the lack of atmosphere or audience at the Barfly. For one of the countries most promising bands it is a disappointing night, and one can only hope that their next outing in Glasgow on March the 11th goes better.
