This is a sneaky SOAB! After 2 or 3 listens you’re sure it’s not quite what you’d hoped for. But it keeps compelling you listen again and again, in some attempt to discover just what it is that not only gets under your skin but makes you happier whilst its there.
It’s a chart friendly track with a joyous 60s psychedelia feel that purrs at the heart of its Status Quo like construct. Some sublime trumpet work pleases lots too. So, is its downfall the constant lyrical barrage that’s delivered like Elton John singing in a plain, generic voice, making the track inaccessible and off-putting? Could be, but if so, then what of its undeniably catchy chorus?
I’m certain JR fans will love it and newcomers like me will remain intrigued and entertained enough to at least recommend exposure to this little number.
