Hot Club De Paris – Will you still be in love me with me next year?

I’d heard a lot about Hot Club De Paris and had built them up so when I put on ‘will you still be in love me with me next year?’ I was disappointed.

It’s like a low rent Christmas reggae (and when I say reggae I’m talking watered down Ordinary Boys not Bob Marley) song. So imagine this mixed with a male northern Kate Nash but a bit more chilled. I couldn’t even give it a second listen.

The second song was a cover of The Clash’s ‘Straight to Hell’ stripped down acoustic and it’s actually quite nice, I liked it. But I don’t see the point in doing covers unless you’re really going to do it well like Sonic Youth covering ‘Get into the Groove’.

If you’re already a fan you’ll love this, otherwise I’m just disappointed in myself I didn’t like it more. Although, after a quick nosey at their myspace page their other songs are far more impressive – maybe I’ve just not got enough Christmas cheer in me yet to appreciate this song. A real outsider for Christmas No.1
