Vanilla Sky – Break It Out

At first, Break It Out sounds like Vanilla Sky have accidentally played a Placebo record at 78rpm instead of 45rpm (which, incidentally, is a good, good thing) before the killer chorus melodically karate chops you in the throat and leaves you momentarily gasping for air. Their taut sound is particularly evident on the cover of Rihanna’s Umbrella which flows with moments of crisply-cut power between Funeral for a Friend and the Alkaline Trio.
