Bjork – Earth Intruders

The music world just seems a little more exciting again with Bjork back in the frame.

That little scary lass is back. Seriously, do not go near her with a question and long hair. No matter what you may think of her personality or, and I say this very loosely, her acting though, you cannot possibly deny that on record she has been one of the most inventive and vital artists of the last decade.

For her big comeback single she’s combined with Mr. Inescapable – Timbaland, who brings the same innovation to this track as he has done recently to the likes of Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado.

Beginning with strange, minimalistic, African tribal beats, this instantly makes you stop what you’re doing and wait for the re-arrival of Bjork’s distinctive vocals to remind us all of what we’ve been missing. A massive, bassy synth mixes around with haunting background harmonies and what sounds like a kid playing a xylophone, and it leaves us eager for the new ‘Volta’ album.

This is (if you can compare it to anything in her back catalogue) ‘Human Behaviour’ meets ‘Isobel’ and even if it’s not quite a ‘Hyperballad’ vintage it’s still great to have the little freaky genius back.
