ILM rounds off the year and its 10th anniversary celebrations with the Winter Market on Saturday 27th November. Taking place at Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross with a five star line up of independent labels & partners including 4AD, Brownswood, Secretly, Mexican Summer and Mute. A celebration of music and vinyl culture plus DJ sets throughout the day and an after party at Spiritland. ILM is also teaming up with Dice and London Brewers Market to offer a 10% discount on their finest beer, sign up here in advance. In 2021, the ILM Mentoring Scheme is working with new mentee, a young female-led indie label, Sad Club Records.
Following two brilliantly received events in July – the Summer Market in Kings Cross and the ILM Carnaby Street Takeover as part of Soho Music Month, ILM returns for a seasonal celebration of music and vinyl culture with its annual Winter event.
The Winter Market takes place Saturday 27th November at Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross with a five star line up of labels including 4AD, BBE, Bella Union, Brownswood Earth, Erased Tapes, Far Out, Fierce Panda, Fire, Full Time Hobby, Gare du Nord, Hassle, LEX, Mexican Summer, Mukatsuku, Mute, One Little Independent, Partisan, Secretly, Sonic Cathedral, Speedy Wunderground & many more.
Market stalls will be jam packed with limited editions, vinyl rarities and test pressings as well as exclusive label and band merchandise. The winter event will be fabulously soundtracked by ILM curated DJ sets from artists and labels throughout the day with a special after party at Spiritland. Spiritland entered London’s musical landscape when they launched their listening bar in King’s Cross five years ago. For the Independent Label Market Winter event, they will be returning with their incredible Spiritland Soundsystem. An imposing presence inspired by the heavyweight UK funk and soul soundsystems of the 1980s, the system is a mix of vintage speakers and modern digital amplification. Expect an ear-tickling experience and proper party vibes.
It wouldn’t be a party without the excellent London Brewers’ Market which will be showcasing the best of London’s lively, diverse and exciting independent brewing scene. ILM is also partnering with Dice to offer a 10% discount on all drinks at the London Brewers’ Market throughout the event…only available by sign up via this link
ILM first ever Manchester Market
Independent Label Market is also delighted to announce its first ever market in Manchester on the 5th December as part of Tim Burgess’ Vinyl Adventures Record Fair. The December event will see stalls, live performances, interviews and talks taking place across the city. Record shops involved in the festivities include Piccadilly Records, Mars Tapes, Vinyl Resting Place, Clampdown Records, Eastern Bloc Records Vinyl Revival, and Wax and Beans in Bury.
ILM co-founder Joe Daniel says: “We’d been wanting to come to Manchester for a long time and for one reason or another had never quite found the right time or place to make it happen. When Tim asked us to be part of Vinyl Adventures we leapt at the chance, it’s a perfect fit…and of course, we’ve had great fun in the past hosting O Genesis Recordings at our London Market. We’ve got a super exciting bunch of labels on board already and we’re really looking forward to it.”
Independent Label Market will take place at The Royal Exchange, St Ann’s Square, on the 5th Dec from 12-6pm.
Partnerships & Initiatives
In 2021, the ILM Mentoring Scheme is working with a new mentee, Sad Club Records which will be attending the market for the first time this winter. The young women-led indie label is a small London-based independent working with indie artists, releasing music by bands such as John Myrtle, Bugs and Swallow Cave.
The ILM Mentoring Scheme is intended to help support an exciting cohort of artists experimenting with new techniques and blurring the boundaries between art, performance and music. The scheme promotes emerging artists from different genres to new audiences, by giving them and the small independent labels which release them a focused platform at ILM UK events. The scheme launched in 2016 (supported by the Arts Council England) in collaboration with four leading independent record labels helping them to develop their presence in the wider industry in addition to practical support such as funding for operational costs, workshops with industry experts, promotional opportunities and much more.
