Blood Red Shoes, who released their 6th studio album, also titled GHOSTS ON TAPE in January of this year, have today shared a 15-minute film short of the same name sound-tracked by songs from the album.
Premiered to a packed audience at the Everyman Cinema in London last month, the film is streaming now on Youtube.
“With this album we really didn’t want to make conventional music videos”, explains drummer/vocalist Steven Ansell. “We wanted to make something artistic and creative which used our music and really added to the feel and atmosphere of the album, but wasn’t just a promotional advert for a song”.
Written and directed by filmmaker Craig Murray, the film is an unsettling, brooding, psychological horror story, featuring the band plus their future ghosts, and a blue-hooded death cult reminiscent of Eyes Wide Shut. Using four songs from the band’s latest album plus some Eraserhead-style drones and industrial noises, it builds a mysterious, dark and uncomfortable world.
“I wanted to make an unnerving, slow moving horror film, but without gore or jump scares. You never actually see harm, it is just constantly implied”, says Director Craig Murray. “I used the idea of future ghosts to reference how our future selves might look to judge our actions of now, actions which lead to their own demise”.
