Following the announcement of a truly incredible set of headline acts, Somerset House Summer Series with American Express has released details of the supporting artists including sensational soul project Children Of Zeus, one of the most promising talents in UK R&B and Make Me Cry singer Pip Millett, and one of The Guardian’s recent “one to watch” bands caroline amongst others who’ll be joining this year’s line-up from 07 – 17 July 2022.
An unmissable summer experience, Somerset House Summer Series brings a vibrant festival atmosphere right to the heart of London, offering music fans a rare opportunity to watch world renowned and emerging acts, across a whole range of diverse and eclectic genres in a spectacular, intimate setting.
Since its incarnation, this unique festival has been instrumental in introducing audiences to some of the hottest new talent. This year’s incendiary support acts follow in the footsteps of established names including Little Simz, Wolf Alice, Jess Glynne and Kojey Radical, all of whom have opened shows at Somerset House in recent years.
Yussef Dayes has lined up an array of special guests to join him at the Saturday all-day event. The bill features Manchester soul collective Children of Zeus, comprising respected artists Konny Kon & Tyler Daley, one of the UK’s best known and most loved reggae sound systems, Channel One Soundsystem, and Jamillah Barry, a young London singer who creates an eclectic blend of soul, jazz and R&B, infusing elements from Senegalese and Bollywood soundtracks alongside the Guinean music of her family heritage.
The following night, Bomba Estéreo are joined by The Busy Twist – London born producer, global electronic sound specialist Oliver Williams, who has travelled the world soaking up sounds and grooves from St Lucia to Jamaica, Ghana to Colombia, to create joyful, sun-soaked, music citing influences from Afro House, Kuduro, Latin and UK Bass.
On Monday 11th, producer and songwriter Nathan Jenkins, aka Bullion, has been added to the sold out Carly Rae Jepsen show, while the following night emotive New Zealand singer songwriter Molly Payton opens up for the sold out Arlo Parks performance.
Opening for Rough Trade Records label mates black midi on Wednesday (13th), eight-piece collective caroline will take to the stage to build anticipation for their peers with their cinematic, sweeping post-rock delivering propulsive waves of sound across the courtyard. This cacophonous octet, with their ubiquitous criss-crossing instrumentation and hypnotic rhythms, are not to be missed.
Joining Ghetts, one of the most vital and talented artists to emerge from the UK’s grime scene, is very special guest Pip Millett. The two artists have collaborated on the track Running. In just three years this 23-year-old artist from Manchester has grown into one of the most promising talents in UK R&B. She describes her music as “subtle, emotional and calm”, and she treads a measured line between laidback defiance and vulnerability, but the response has been anything but restrained. An emphatic and emotive COLORS session for single Make Me Cry, which lit up YouTube, has now racked up in excess of 5 million views. This opening slot for Ghetts will only add to the growing hype around this undeniable talent and looks set to be a Summer Series highlight.
On Friday (15th) Lewis Delhomme aka Lewis OfMan opens proceedings for one of London’s hottest talents, SG Lewis. Lewis OfMan is a French singer, musician, songwriter, and producer, who belies his age with a prodigious and impressively accomplished discography. Describing his music process as “dreaming while dancing”, The Fader commented that his music is “a pop and funk laced melting pot”, the infectious combination of rhythmic elasticity and uplifting analogue keys offering a heady treat that guarantees this will be a special Friday night.
