MUDRAT drops video for fiery single ‘I HATE RICH C**TS’

Today, Naarm/Melbourne Australia’s formidable punk/hip-hop hybrid MUDRAT drops a video for the fiery single ‘I HATE RICH C**TS,’ from his highly acclaimed debut album ‘SOCIAL COHESION’.  The video was shot at MUDRAT’s recent headline performance at the SOLD OUT “RAGE AGAINST RACISM” all ages show at The Tote hotel in Melbourne.

Regarding the song and video, MUDRAT shares;

This song represents my entry point to class consciousness – which like all things is led by feeling before theory. It’s simply an observation of everything I was seeing and feeling as my liberal worldview was rapidly breaking down in front of my eyes as a result of the genocide in Gaza.

It’s probably not too surprising that it’s our biggest and most relatable song. The unbridled anger, knowing that everything is fu**ed but perhaps not quite understanding exactly why is a thing that most people who aren’t ultra wealthy experience. Since then I have developed a theoretical understanding of various political constructs that allows one to place how and why things have come to be where they’re at.

I must create from a place of authenticity, it is why our music has connected the way that it has, but it also means we will never make another song like rich cu**s again – doing it once was lightning in a bottle – forcing it again is attempting to write a hit by observing things people are angry about and manipulating that for our profit.

Its why we felt it necessary to acknowledge this record with a music video in 2026. This song has changed my life but we also must let it go as we move onto the next chapter, which will delve further into the uncomfortable shades of grey of political movements.

We initially planned an elaborate shoot for the ‘I HATE RICH C**NTS’ music video, but we played our first all ages show recently and had a change of heart. We were planning to capture some footage at the gig to cut to throughout the music video, but as I stepped into the crowd and the song played over the speakers, the energy in the room blew me away. We ended up using that one shot from the gig for the music video.

The crowd knew every word and I’ve never envisioned hearing my lyrics yelled back at me as loud as they were. I knew instantly that this moment needed to be presented in its entirety.

MUDRAT‘s debut album ‘SOCIAL COHESION’ is a direct response to proposed anti-protest laws in Victoria, which are being justified under the guise of protecting “social cohesion.” This record challenges that narrative, arguing that genuine unity comes not from silence or conformity, but from facing down division and fighting for collective justice.

The album is a testament to the full evolution of the MUDRAT project. After starting as a solo artist, MUDRAT cemented his sound by forming a cohesive band, THE MISCHIEF, featuring long-time collaborator Emile Battour (Ocean Grove) on drums, Noah Sole on bass, and Javier Langham (Dancing Water) on guitar.

Taking the personal anger of earlier work and turning it into a collective, powerful anthem, it shows how music can be a tool for change and a reminder that listeners have the power to be leaders, not just bystanders. This synthesis has allowed the project to break free from the traditional artist/beat-maker dynamic, with MUDRAT effortlessly shifting between a charismatic punk frontman and a top-tier MC.

This April & May MUDRAT heads to the UK and Europe for the first time, supporting Hyphen on his Rebel Scum Tour throughout the UK and appearing at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, as well as select dates though Europe. Tickets for the headline dates will be on sale Thu 26 Feb, 9am.
